THE META-EVENT AND ONTOLOGICAL EKSTASIS: THE GENERATIVE LOGIC OF DIVINE DECISION IN SCHELLING’S PHILOSOPHY

Abstract

Schelling’s philosophy has long been fragmented by the “myth of rupture”, with its stages (e.g., Philosophy of Nature, Philosophy of Freedom) deemed disconnected. This study argues for its inherent unity through the triadic “Latency-Contraction-Ekstasis” model rooted in Schelling’s “Ungrund” — a primordial unity transcending being and non-being. “Latency” denotes unmanifested potency in the Ungrund; “Contraction” describes potency’s selflimitation generating ontological difference; “Ekstasis” refers to domain-specific unfolding and return to unity. The model reenacts unconsciously in nature (magnetism, chemistry) and consciously in history, where “evil” emerges as an “ontological remainder” confirming divine decision. This reinterpretation dispels the rupture myth, supplements contemporary event ontology (Deleuze, Badiou), and revives freedom as “participation in being’s generation”.
