About the Journal
Szellem és Tudomány was launched in 2010 with the aim of creating a forum for the demanding, scientifically demanding examination of social phenomena, with special regard to the challenges of Hungary.
We are convinced that understanding and addressing the social problems of the region is unthinkable without thorough research, analysis and responsible professional dialogue. The authors and staff of the journal come primarily from the world of higher education and research, and believe in the community-forming, problem-solving power of knowledge.
Szellem és Tudomány is not a mouthpiece for a single school or trend. It aims to be an open platform: empirical, quantitative and qualitative research, theoretical studies, methodological reflections and critical analyses are all welcome in its columns.
The title is a conscious choice.
"Szellem" (spirit) and "tudomány" (science) are not opposing, but complementary concepts. The methodological discipline of science and intellectual openness together create the space for thinking in which a deeper understanding of social reality is possible.
Spirit and Science (Szellem és Tudomány) represents the unity of these two:
rigorous scholarship and responsible, reflective thinking – in dialogue with each other and with society.
