Abstract

According to the conventional classification of metal forming two main technological processes are defined: sheet forming and bulk forming. Sheet forming – concerning its process characteristics – may be defined as two-dimensional deformation of sheet materials, while in bulk forming processes, a three dimensional strain state exists in the deformation zone. Due to the ever increasing demand for light weight constructions - particularly in the automotive industry – many new forming processes were elaborated during the recent years. Sheet-bulk forming may be regarded as a special group among these new, innovative developments. The elaboration of sheet-bulk forming is a result of functional integration of light weight products usually made from high strength materials. This paper is the first general overview written in Hungarian language on this innovative new process.
