Abstract

In implementing the energy transition, particular attention should be paid to coal regions. In my study, I use the example of the Northern Hungary region to present the main challenges for achieving a sustainable energy transition, mainly due to the low energy efficiency of residential buildings, significant energy poverty, intensive lignite use and air pollution. I identify municipalities where households are particularly exposed to the risk of energy poverty and make policy recommendations to support these municipalities.
