Thoughts about classical and unique forms of child labour

Abstract

Article 32 of the New York Convention on the Rights of the Child highlights the need to protect children from economic exploitation. This includes the prohibition of forced labour and the requirement to ensure adequate working conditions. The legislator makes it an obligation to set age limits and regulate the legal basis for adequate working conditions. Why is it necessary to highlight this in the first decades of the twenty-first century? Because child labour still exists today. Contrary to belief, not only in third world countries, but even in the countries of the European Union. Classic forms of illegal child labour have long been known to specialists. The root cause can be poverty, migration constraints or even war. But it is important to point out that, in our opinion, in addition to classical forms, social media platforms can also represent a new field that can be a venue for the exploitation of children and the violation of children’s rights, even if only virtually. Therefore, in our study, in addition to presenting classic situations and analysing them from the point of view of
labour law, we also try to introduce, present and propose new forms for the development of appropriate legal protection tools.
