Abstract

In this paper, the validity limits of classical formability tests is analysed based on the literature and the results of experimental investigations with special regard to the conventional and high strength steels applied in the automotive industry. Concerning the formability of sheet materials, a special attention is paid for the relationship of local and macroscopic properties. Some proposals are elaborated for the further development of formability investigations and sheet material qualification concerning the high strength sheet materials that are more and more widely applied in the automotive industry.
