Abstract

The paper investigates the wear process at dry friction using the Archard wear rule. It gives a variational method for calculation of the contact pressure directly without time integration of the wear rule until the steady state is reached. Some examples are demonstrated the possible using of this method. The periodic sliding of contacting bodies, assuming cyclic steady state conditions is investigated in the paper. An analytical method for prediction of the number of cycles to reach steady wear periodical state is given in it.
