Abstract

The object of this article is the design of the engine for a pneumobile. The engine is an important component in a pneumobile, a vehicle created for an international student race. The engine is responsible for the transformation of the pneumatic cylinder’s linear, alternating movement to rotating motion, and it drives the driven wheels through the drive chain. The pneumatic cylinders are driven by compressed air. The purose of this article is only the design of the engine, without the control system of the cylinders or the drive chain. The experiences gathered during the design and construction of my former pneumobile engine helped in the proccess. The placement of the output shaft was one of the most difficult obstacles during the design.
