Efficiency improvement of an electronical product's assembly process

Abstract

Nowadays, due to the rapidly changing economic environment, global market competition, and the economic challenges caused by the pandemic situation, manufacturers have to focus on cost reduction and efficiency improvement of their manufacturing and assembly activities in order to maintain their competitiveness. The Lean production philosophy is an effective efficiency improvement method to achieve the above mentioned goals. In the article – after discussing the related theoretical knowledge – a specific practical task is introduced. The assembly activity’s process improvement of the electronic product including 18 sub-processes is carried out using Lean methods. Based on the KPIs’ (Key Performance Indicator) comparison of the original and the newly improved assembly processes, it can be concluded that the Lean methods can increase the productivity of the investigated assembly process significantly.
