Numerical simulation of forming process of the bottom part of aluminum cans

This paper deals with the numerical simulation of the forming process in which the bottom part of an aluminium can is shaped. The numerical models are created using commercial finite element software Abaqus CAE. The modelling possibilities of this highly nonlinear shaping process are investigated. The main objective is to get the reaction force – displacement diagram of the forming process. The effect of various parameters (such as the material properties or the geomety) is investigated on the reaction forces.
