Abstract

Nowadays, there is a growing demand for the use of hydrogen as a power source. One important step towards is providing of hydrogen transport infrastructure. One possible way to transport large amounts of hydrogen is by pipelines, as many countries, including ours, have extended natural gas pipeline networks. However, to ensure safe transport, it is necessary to have the appropriate background information, as hydrogen-related damage is one of the most complex forms of mechanical damage of metals. The classification of the different damage modes and the description of the different damage mechanisms are not uniform in the world literature. Another problem is that different damage mechanisms can occur simultaneously. In the present research work, we have summarised the most common mechanisms in the literature where hydrogen plays a key role in the damage mechanism.
