Abstract

The aim of the paper is to determine experimentally the coefficient of friction between different floor coverings and training shoes. The value of the coefficient of friction has a significant effect on the various knee injuries of athletes, typically the anterior cruciate ligament. The type of floor covering to be tested is two types of parquet and three types of PVC coverings. During the measurements, we determine the magnitude of forces that are generated during contact between the training shoes and the flooring. From the measured data, we determine the amount of the static coefficient of friction between the four floor coverings and two types of training shoes (one for women and one for men) and analyse the factors affecting the friction coefficient.
