Digital twin technology in logistics opportunities in the fourth industrial revolution

Abstract

The fourth industrial revolution has changed the main development directions of production and service companies. The application of available ITC technologies makes it possible to increase the efficiency, flexibility and availability of the traditional supply chain solutions and led to the transformation of traditional systems to cyber-physical systems. The improvement and integration of of simulation technology, virtual and augmented reality (VR+AR) led to the appearance of digital twin technology. Within the frame of this article the authors describe the potential of digital twin technology and the possible impact on logistics.
