Abstract
Several analytical models were worked-out by the researchers previously for the determination of theoretical value of surface roughness in case of turning. However, since the kinematical and dynamical conditions of milling are significantly different, there are only a small number of such methods in the technical literature for the determination of theoretical roughness of surfaces machined by face milling. The goal of the calculation of theoretical roughness is to obtain such relations with real roughness data, on the basis of which the expected roughness can be planned. Those fundamental theoretical considerations are introduced in the paper, by the help of which theoretical surface roughness indexes can be determined in face milling. The basis for the suggested calculation method is the formerly developed theoretical model and calculation algorithm which was worked-out for turning process. The possible variations of evolving of the theoretical profile are introduced, together with the mathematical descriptions which can be used in the calculations.
