Abstract
To finish hard machining of hardened parts PCBN tool materials are used, which are expensive and their favourable chip removal properties are prevailed in a narrow range of technological parameters. Therefore it is emphasized priority to investigate the wear and tool life of these tools. In this paper we present the determination of the tool life of PCBN cutting tools in roughing and finishing using technological parameters in case of concrete part machining. During the experiments we measured the flank wear of cutting inserts. After the determination of tool life criteria we evaluated the experimental results with the valid tool life equation of the whole range of cutting speed. With the help of tool life curves we determined the optimal values of the theoretical material removal rate and surface rate.
