Abstract

Nowadays significant researches are in progress aiming at the modernization of precision finishing methods. Advanced production engineering developments have aimed to reach the high accuracy of machining different parts and the prescribed surface roughness criterions. Along with these parameters scientists push on the development and research of efficient and fast methods. Among the precision machining methods grinding is the most widespread, which can be described with high accuracy and low roughness of the surface, however, one of its main disadvantages is the need of high machining time. Hard turning and combined machining – which are developed to provide alternative methods for grinding – are less time consuming than grinding, however, their accuracy and the surface roughness parameters are about the same. In this article we investigate the fluctuation of surface roughness parameters of the above mentioned methods (hard turning, combined machining) when machining the bore holes of disc-like components. On the basis of comparison, the main differences between the two methods are presented.
