Abstract

Recently, there is a strong demand for the elaboration and widespread application of new, flexible, innovative forming processes. Conventional forming processes apply rigid tool constructions: the shape of the part to be produced is usually defined by the forming punches and dies. However, particularly in those cases when the reduction of tool costs is of utmost importance, the application of flexible, dieless forming processes has the highest priority. Incremental sheet metal forming is one of the most promising innovative new processes elaborated during the last decades. The Department of Material Processing Technologies at the University of Miskolc together with the Production Engineering Department at the University of Ljubljana have gained a joint EUREKA project to study these new processes and to further develop them. The research work started in the above project is further continued within the framework of the Hungarian national project entitled: Complex renewal of domestic and international competitiveness of the University of Miskolc.
