Abstract

Post-tensioning has significant influence on both static and dynamic behaviour of the steel beams. Structural performance can be positively affected by the compressing force acting on the cross-section resulting stress redistribution, reduction in deflection and also lower natural frequency. The reduced natural frequency of the beam loaded by harmonic excitation force yield to lower resonance factor when the angular frequency of the excitation force is higher than the natural frequency of the beam. Lower dynamic loads can be determined due to lower resonance factor which resulting also lower maximum displacement, velocity and acceleration of structure. Because of the health protection or other technological reasons limitation of the vibration effect may be required. By reducing dynamic loads, the stresses of the structural elements can also be reduced.
