ETHICAL PRINCIPLES OF PUBLICATION
Statement on Ethical Principles of Publication
The journal Miskolci Jogi Szemle employs a double-blind review process; therefore, all parties involved in the publication process (the author, the journal’s editorial board, the reviewer, and the publisher) must adhere to the expected standards of ethical conduct. This statement of ethics is based on the COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics, http://publicationethics.org/about) guidelines titled “Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors.”
Decisions Regarding Publication
The journal’s editorial board decides which of the articles submitted for publication will be published in the journal. The editorial board may be guided by previously established guidelines and may be constrained by current laws regarding defamation, copyright infringement, and plagiarism. The secretary of the journal’s editorial board may run a program to detect plagiarism.
Equal Opportunity
The editorial board evaluates the intellectual content of manuscripts at all times without regard to the authors’ race, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, ethnic origin, nationality, or political views.
Confidentiality
The editorial board and its members shall not disclose any information regarding manuscripts submitted for publication. Exceptions to this rule include the author, reviewers, potential reviewers, members of the advisory board, and the publisher.
Publication and Conflict of Interests
Members of the editorial board may not use unpublished material from submitted manuscripts for their own research without the author’s written consent.
REVIEWERS’ RESPONSIBILITIES
Contribution to Editorial Board Decisions
The reviewer assists the Editorial Board in decision-making and, where necessary, supports the author in improving the scientific quality of the article during the review process.
Efficiency
If the selected reviewer believes that they are not sufficiently qualified to evaluate the research presented in the manuscript, or knows that they will be unable to prepare the review effectively and by the specified deadline, they are responsible for immediately notifying the editorial board secretary and withdrawing from the review process.
Confidentiality
All manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents. They may only be made public or discussed with others with the permission of the editorial board.
Objectivity
The evaluation must be conducted objectively. Criticism directed at the author's personality is inappropriate. Reviewers must express their opinions clearly and support them with arguments.
Citation of Sources
Reviewers must identify relevant published works that the authors have not cited. Any statement that contains an observation, line of reasoning, or argument derived from a previously published work must be accompanied by the appropriate citation. At the same time, the reviewer must bring to the attention of the editorial board any substantial similarities or overlaps between the manuscript under review and other previously published material known to them.
Publication and Conflict of Interest
Privileged information or ideas obtained during the evaluation process must be treated confidentially and may not be used for personal advancement. Reviewers may not evaluate a given manuscript if they have a conflict of interest with the authors, companies, or institutions associated with the study arising from any competitive situation, collaboration, or other relationship.
AUTHORS’ OBLIGATIONS
Guidelines for Publication
Interpretations and conclusions must be based solely on facts or on unbiased and logical reasoning. The background data of the study must be presented accurately. False or deliberately inaccurate statements are considered unethical and unacceptable behavior.
Originality and Plagiarism
Authors must guarantee that the study is their own original intellectual creation; if they have used the works and/or expressions of others, they must have cited them appropriately and referenced them properly.
Multiple, redundant, or simultaneous publication
It is not proper practice to publish a manuscript presenting the same research in different independent publications or journals. Submitting the same manuscript to multiple journals simultaneously constitutes unethical conduct and is unacceptable.
Citation of Sources
Cited works must always be properly referenced. Authors must cite all publications that have influenced their work.
Authorship
All individuals who have made a substantial contribution to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the study presented should be listed as authors. All individuals who have made a significant contribution to the study should be listed as co-authors. At the same time, all those who participated in certain essential phases of the research project should be listed as contributors. The author must guarantee that all significant co-authors are listed in the study, that no ineligible individuals have been listed as co-authors, and that all co-authors have reviewed and approved the final version of the study and consented to its publication.
Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest
All authors are required to disclose in their manuscript any financial or other substantive conflicts of interest that could influence the results or interpretation of the study. All sources of financial support for the project must be disclosed.
Fundamental errors in published works
If an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in a work that has already been published, they must immediately notify the journal’s editor or publisher and cooperate with the editorial board in retracting or correcting the article.
