Jogtár®, Hungary’s leading legal database, was introduced in August 1993. In the legal profession, computing first appeared as a solution for the digital storage and efficient searchability of legal material. On the anniversary of Jogtár®, I will present the main events in the digital development of information storage and retrieval. This field has adapted almost immediately to the new technologies that have emerged in the meantime. The goal is the same today and in the past: to retrieve the relevant legal information as swiftly as possible from the largest possible amount of stored information.
