Glyphosate is the crucial active ingredient of the market leading herbicides, plant protection materials since the 1970s. Its possible carcinogenic effects is a question under debate to date, and this debate is not free from the doubts caused by theoretical contradictions, methodological differences and the influence of the industry concerned. As the agencies of the EU and the USA, in consort with certain international entities deny its carcinogenic nature, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) disagrees with them. The carcinogenic nature is also accepted by Austria, Germany and partially France in the EU and by the State of California in the USA. This study, besides reviewing the aforementioned, undertakes to examine the legal issues and problems related to them in the EU and partially in the USA.
