Abstract

Croatia has a uniquely diverse system in the European Union to promote equal treatment, assigned to the ombudsman. While the development of the institution of ombudsman in Hungary has followed the tendency of the number of staff performing ombudsman tasks becoming smaller, in Croatia the opposite trend can be seen, as each ombudsman case type falls into the hands of more and more independent specialized ombudsmen. The article details the tasks and powers of ombudsmen in Croatia and points out the similarities and differences between the relevant Croatian and Hungarian legal provisions.
