In international comparison, the teaching of legal psychology has a tradition of several decades. The intertwining of the two disciplines began at the dawn of the 20th century, while its institutionalization began in the 1970s. The first programs covering law and psychology were launched in the USA. At these joint courses both lawyers and psychologists were trained. At the beginning of the 21st century, these courses spread in Europe and other countries of the world. Initiatives for the joint education and research of law and psychology appeared in Hungary in the mid-1990s. The commitment of the University of Miskolc to launch specialist legal training in the field fits well with the international and domestic trends.
