The paper attempts to outline some of the characteristics of the old Hungarian public law thought through some common features of the Golden Bull and the Holy Crown doctrine. It points out the similarities between the steppic, Hun state idea, the state organization of Charlemagne and the state organization of St. Stephen. The essential feature of this is the complementary duality of strong central power and the autonomy of the parts. Its antecedents can be seen in the provisions of the Blood Treaty.
