Balancing work and family life is an eternal labour market problem. This phenomenon has a number of aspects in labour law, since on the one hand, the legislator has to respond to traditional employment risks, and on the other hand, such new challenges emerge that are related to the circumstances and place of work or the issue of absence due to childbearing. This paper focuses on the key legislative product in this theme, Directive (EU) 2019/1158 emphasising its importance, complexity and some basic questions of its potential impact on the Member States' relevant laws.
